Let the games begin.

Congratulations London.

That gust of wind blowing across the Atlantc
is no doubt the huge sigh of relief exhaled by
eight million New Yorkers.

I didn't catch any of the Olympic presentations,
but I did a double-take when I read this bit
from King Kaufman's sports column in Salon:

London's presentation involved reminding
the committee that the city stepped in to
host the Games in 1948 as Europe was
trying to recover from the devastation of
World War II.

"Remind me again," one British presenter
said, turning to the French with a raised
eyebrow, "what you lot did during World
War II?"

London was playing for keeps.

Did he really say that?

Damn!
